Our South Korea trip was definitely the trip of a lifetime! We packed so much into our days, that I'm going to break it up by day. Our first two days were really just spent traveling...we started off with a delay for our first flight, so the girls and I killed time by finding a play area at the MSP airport.
Unfortunately, that delay made things tricky for getting to our next flight. We finally arrived at our gate in San Francisco with just minutes before our Korean Air flight. We followed a group of guys who were also headed to the same flight, running to try to figure out how to get to the international terminal. We had to leave our terminal, ride on a tram, then cut in line at security and run to our gate. Luckily, they had held our flight knowing about the situation, so we were just fine, but whew, did it feel good to finally make it on the plane and be greeted with a blanket, a water bottle, headphones, and toys for the girls.
We can't say enough great things about Korean Air--it was definitely the most amazing flight I have ever been on! It was a long flight, but didn't feel as long as I expected it to feel. We were able to get Norah to sleep more than anyone else, so that was good. The rest of us didn't get much sleep.
At the Seoul airport, we found that our luggage hadn't made it, since we had such a tight connection with our flight delay, but arranged to have them deliver it the next day to our apartment. Luckily, we had planned ahead and packed pajamas and a set of clothes in our carryon.
We finally were able to go through customs and see Tracy for the first time in a year and a half! She helped us exchange money and get a public transit pass, and then we had our first meal in South Korea--Shake Shack! We took the subway to our first Airbnb that Tracy had found in Seoul.
The next morning (really day 3 of our trip), we went to Namsan Seoul Tower. The views were amazing! The bathrooms were crazy--floor to ceiling glass windows with a birds-eye view.
The tower is known for its "love locks", so we bought locks and added them to the wall.
After visiting the tower, we took a bus to a different part of Seoul, where we ate lunch and then found a rental shop where the girls rented traditional hanbok for our visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace. It was .a HOT afternoon, but the girls were troopers!
That night, we were crazy to think that a Korean baseball game would be a good idea, but we went anyway! It was such a fun atmosphere--they sing chants/songs and cheer constantly when their team is up. Even with all of the action in the stands, 75% of our group fell asleep with the jet lag, and we left in the 4th inning!
