Retirement party

We celebrated my dad's "retirement" over Labor Day weekend with our whole family.  Greg and Rose Mary even drove up from Texas for a couple of weeks so that they could be there.  My dad retired from Simpler at the end of August, but isn't technically retired--he started up his own healthcare consulting firm and is staying plenty busy!  We rented out my friend Tiffany's family cabin for the long weekend, and had some great family time.  We played games, canoed, played in the water, did a murder mystery game, ate yummy food, and celebrated my dad's hard work and accomplishments.

Back to School

After a summer of uncertainty about what school would look like for the 2020-2021 school year, it was time to head back.  We started in a hybrid style, which meant that the girls would go to school every other Wednesday and every Thursday/Friday.  The days at home would be asynchronous learning activities, besides band Google Meets for Abby.  This year, masks and social distancing were required due to Covid.

Abby started 7th grade the Monday before Labor Day.  It was nice that Greg was there to help send her off to school.

Norah started 3rd grade with Mrs. Simon the Wednesday before Labor Day.  She got to meet her the week before at a 1:1 assessment conference.

End of summer 2020

Our last couple of weeks of summer consisted of a trip down to Iowa to drop Norah off for "Camp Carlson" with my aunt Miriam.  We had lunch with my aunts, cousin and her daughter, and my grandma at DQ, Abby enjoyed some cat time and we had some good laughs hanging out at Miriam's, and we stopped in to see my other grandma before heading back to MN.  Norah had a great few days staying with Miriam, Scott, and Gavin!

We were also able to squeeze in some swimming with good friends at the Sticha's pool.  Great times as always!

North Shore getaway

Dave and I had planned to spend two nights at our favorite bed and breakfast in Hinckley, but the couple who runs it closed it due to Covid.  Instead, we booked two nights at the Grand Superior Lodge north of Two Harbors.  We enjoyed seeing the sights, hiking, and some great curbside pickup (including Betty's Pies!).
